AirAsia boss hints at leaving Twitter

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, among the few local corporate figures who is active on social media, announced today that he may leave Twitter soon.

This, as he opined that social media has become an angry place.

"Having closed Facebook, time is coming to shut down Twitter," he wrote on his Twitter account @tonyfernandes today.

While he was a fan of Twitter, he described the place as having too much negativity, falsehood and anger now.

"It's been an amazing ride," he remarked, adding that he feels much better now not being on Facebook and believes he will feel even better without Twitter.

Last year, Fernandes closed his Facebook page, but said, "But on Twitter I think the battle for me goes on."

With more than 600,000 followers on Facebook, he shut it down saying there was a lot of "hate" on social media.

In 2014, Fernandes deactivated his Twitter saying maybe he would return, and he did.

Fernandes joined Twitter in 2008 and has amassed some 1.3 million followers.
