Seven pupils in Sabah tested positive for Influenza A

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Health Department said seven pupils have been tested positive with Influenza A as of yesterday.

State Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon said Sekolah Kebangsaan Stella Maris in Tanjung Aru was temporarily closed after six of its pupils were infected with influenza-like illness.

“Based on checks by the Kota Kinabalu health office, a total of seven pupils were tested positive with influenza.

“All of them have received treatment at private hospitals and clinics in the city,” he said.

Poon said checks also revealed slight increase in influenza cases reported in the state since last month but the changes were still within the normal range.

Analysis on the virus, he pointed out, showed no sign of mutation.

“Sabah Health Department has informed that for now, there's no need to shut down the school due to influenza.

“Parents are advised not to send their sick children to school to prevent the spread of the disease,” he said, adding that people should keep themselves and their surroundings clean to prevent the spread of disease.
