Tapir born in captivity

KLUANG: The Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) announced the birth of an 8.6kg female tapir on Tuesday at the Sungai Dusun Wildlife Conservation Centre in Selangor.

State Perhilitan director of operations Salman Saaban said the calf was born to the couple Mala and Boy.

He said that the public had offered names for the tapir on the department’s Twitter page.

“We welcome more suggestions from the public. We have received 9,900 comments with 16,000 likes. It’s a very encouraging sign.”
