Girl with cerebral palsy sets cycling record

PADANG BESAR: A girl born with cerebral palsy broke her own Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) set two years ago after participating in the Incredible Duathlon cycling event, covering a distance of 222.2km across the Malaysia-Thailand border.

In 2018, Nur Wadihan Wira Sudepja set the first record when she and her father covered a distance of 48km in the Kerian Incredible Duathlon category.

Nur Wadihan tagged along in a tricycle carrier that was pedalled by her father in the blistering Perlis heat.

Her father, Wira Sudepja Rabu, 45, said she had a fever before the scheduled start on Friday and precautions were taken by getting sufficient medication.

“I am proud of my special child who kept cheerful and cool on the journey that began from Wang Kelian to Satun, Thailand and later to Pat Bara (Thailand) and back on the same route to Padang Besar,” he said when met after the launch of “Kayuhan Anak Syurga” and MBR award ceremony at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here yesterday.

The event, organised by Yayasan Generasi Malaysia and Kuantan Port, was aimed at putting those with physical disabilities in the spotlight. - Bernama
