Pensioner walks away with RM2mil from BSN SSP lucky draw

KUALA LUMPUR: Wan Khadijah Abdul Rahman, 63, has walked away with RM2 million after more than 21 years of savings with the Bank Simpanan Nasional Sijil Simpanan Premium (BSN SSP).

The civil servant pensioner from Perak said she still could not believe that she won a large amount of money from the BSN SSP’s December 2019 special lucky draw pick.

“I have been saving with BSN since the early 1990s. At that time, I only earned a small wage, but I still put some money in my account for future needs.

“Last month, I received a call from my neighbour, who worked with BSN in Perak. He told me that he will come to my house to give good news. I was cooking lunch at that time.

“He came to my house and informed me that I won RM2 million from the lucky draw pick.

“Of course, I did not believe him until he showed me the letter and matched my identification card number with the one in the letter.

“It was the same, but I still could not believe it,” she said at the BSN SSP December 2019 lucky draw prize giving ceremony at its headquarters here.

Khadijah said she had sleepless nights and was still speechless. When asked her what would she do with the money, she said she woulddecide on it later as she wanted things to cool down first.

Since its inception in 1974, BSN, under its vision “No Malaysian Left Behind”, has been encouraging Malaysians to save and invest, which also helps with traders building small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Its SSP flagship account is known for annual lucky draws and prizes such as RM2 million in cash and a brand new BMW car.

Another winner for the latest BSN SSP Generation Z lucky draw special prize category was 19-year-old Foo Yu Shern, who walked away with RM25,000.

Foo, who has a learning disability, was accompanied by his mother, Lee Kim Khim, at the prize giving ceremony.

“When I received the letter informing that my son won RM25,000 from the lucky draw, I didn’t believe it. I thought it was a scam. Nowadays, you read news about scams and it has happened to me too, through phone calls.

“Then, my friend helped me to check on the BSN website and my son’s name appeared in the winning section. I still did not believe it until my son and I attended this prize giving ceremony.

“I’m speechless and happy at the same time as my son now has money to support his education and future. I will continue to do savings in BSN SSP,” said the 48-year-old single mother from Klang, Selangor.

Another winner, Albert Ng Say Siang from Kedah, drove away with a BMW 318i series from the BSN SSP December 2019 monthly lucky draw pick.

Meanwhile, BSN chief executive Datuk Yunos Abd Ghani said as one of the banks that encourages Malaysians, especially the younger generation to save, BSN had and would continuously introduce products that will benefit depositors.

“As of December, BSN SSP has received good response from the public, where the number of depositors nationwide reached more than 3.79 million people with the amount of savings totalling more than RM3.56 billion.

“To encourage more people to save with us, we initiated new lucky draws with even more rewards to be given, especially for BSN SSP depositors this year.

“BSN offers 7,637 prizes amounting RM23 million this year, an increase of 253 prizes worth RM1 million compared with last year.”
