Pahang reps join hands to contribute allowance to Covid-19 fund

KUANTAN: Twenty-nine Pahang state assemblymen today set aside their political differences to pledge 10 per cent of their monthly allowance to the Pahang Covid-19 fund.

In a joint statement today, Sungai Lembing assemblyman Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah (Barisan Nasional), Tanjung Lumpur assemblyman Rosli Abdul Jabar (Pas) and DAP's Bilut assemblyman Lee Chin Chen said the elected representatives had agreed to allocate 10 per cent of their allowance for three months (April till June) for the fund.

The statement read that 29 of the Pahang assemblymen have agreed to deduct 10 per cent of their allowance for three months from April for the Pahang Covid-19 fund.

Those who agreed for the deduction are from Barisan Nasional (14 assemblyman), Pas (eight) and DAP (seven).

"The two PKR elected representatives did not make any allowance deduction and will help the rakyat through other methods.

“This effort is the empathy and solidarity shown by the state assembly towards the difficulties faced by the people during the Movement Control Order(MCO)."

Yesterday, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail along with 10 executive council members agreed to take a 10 per cent salary cut for three months between April and June to contribute to the Pahang Covid-19 fund.

Last week, Pahang state secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak announced that up to 10,000 civil servants in Pahang had agreed to donate a portion of their salary to aid Malaysians whose livelihoods has been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the MCO.

He said the civil servants in Pahang, including those appointed by the state, local authorities and state statutory bodies, had agreed to do it voluntarily and were estimated to collect about RM100,000 in a month.
