China delivers medical equipment to Malaysia to aid Covid-19 fight

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia received a consignment of Covid-19 medical equipment from China today.

In a statement, Wisma Putra announced that the consignment was handed over to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein by China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian.

The items included 100,008 units of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Nucleic Acid Diagnostic Kit (PCR-Fluorescence Probing) test kits; 100,000 pieces of N95 face masks; 500,000 pieces of surgical masks; 50,000 units of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); and 200 ventilators.

Hishammuddin, who spoke after the handover, expressed Malaysia’s deep appreciation for China’s invaluable support.

He said it reflects the strong partnership between the two countries.

According to Ambassador Bai Tian, the consignment was a gift to Malaysia in recognition of the very close relations and friendship between his country and Malaysia, and a gesture of goodwill in return for the valuable assistance that Malaysia had extended during the initial phase of the Covid- 19 outbreak in China.

The statement read that the consignment was part of a much larger collaboration between Malaysia and China in the common fight against the coronavirus.

Malaysia and China have also expressed a commitment to enhance efforts in the fight, including mitigating the impact of Covid-19 through various platforms such as Asean and other international organisations.
