GEORGE TOWN: A video of a man assaulting a senior citizen in a road rage incident here went viral on social media yesterday.
The 26-second video shows four people talking beside a parked Proton Wira when the man suddenly hit the senior citizen with his motorcycle helmet.
The incident is said to have taken place following a minor accident between the car, driven by an 80-year-old man, and a motorcycle near Bandar Baru, Farlim at about 5.30pm.
The victim is said to have advised the motorcyclist to lodge a report, which prompted the latter to swing the helmet at him.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed the incident.
"We have identified the 35-year-old motorcyclist and the victim is receiving treatment at a private hospital now.
"The victim sustained bruises and stitches following the incident," he said today.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury using weapons or other dangerous objects.
