FoodPanda donates RM200k to Zoo Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: Online delivery service FoodPanda has donated RM200,000 to Zoo Negara to help the national zoo during this difficult time.

Zoo Negara faces financial risk when ticket sales stopped due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) which began since March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The contribution which was made through the Zoo Negara “Adopt an Animal” programme will go towards the upkeep of the zoo and food supplies for the animals.

FoodPanda managing director Sayantan Das in a joint statement with Zoo Negara said the money was an initial step to help ease the plight of the zoo especially in providing food for the animals following the closure of the zoo throughout the MCO period.

He said he hoped that the contribution would encourage more Malaysians to come forward to support the national zoo.

Zoo Negara Malaysia deputy president Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana in the same statement expressed his appreciation to FoodPanda for its overwhelming support and love during this tough times by making donations through its “Adopt An Animal” programme.

The programme is an existing initiative aimed at assisting in fundraising exercise to be channelled towards the health, enrichment, veterinary care and welfare of the wildlife.

“Our animals desperately need the food and care especially during this challenging period. Our expert veterinary staff are carefully monitoring all the animals that are in our care,” he said.
