Chini assemblyman Abu Bakar Harun dies

KUANTAN: Chini assemblyman Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun died today. He was 60.

The four-term assemblyman died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital believed due to a heart attack.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said on Facebook that he received the sad news about Abu Bakar's death. He described Abu Bakar as a friend and comrade.

Wan Rosdy expressed his condolences to Abu Bakar's family and prayed they will remain strong.

Abu Bakar, who previously served as the Pekan Umno deputy division chief and state executive council member between 2013 and 2018, leaves a wife Datin Seri Razana Fatin Abdullah@Razali and two children.

During the 14th General Elections, Abu Bakar secured a 4,622 majority to win the Chini state seat by defeating Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) Mohamad Razali Ithnain and Pas candidate Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim.

Chini is among the four state seats under the Pekan parliamentary constituency, which is held by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Abu Bakar will be buried at the Felda Chini burial ground today. The hearse is expected to leave Kuala Lumpur hospital about 10.30am.

Meanwhile, Najib took to Facebook to express his sympathy and pay tribute to the late Chini assemblyman saying he was sad to hear about Abu Bakar's passing.

"I have known him, a former Felda settler for a long time and he is well-liked by the people in Pahang. A huge loss to the people of Pahang especially in Chini.

"May his soul be blessed and placed amongst the pious. Al-Fatihah," he said in the posting which was accompanied by a black-and white image of Abu Bakar.
