KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya will discuss observations on the compliance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Friday prayers before making necessary adjustments, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"Since today is the first day (Friday prayers allowed in mosques and surau), we will wait for the report from the religious minister (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri) and look into this.
"If there is non-compliance at the mosques, we might deploy enforcement personnel to ensure the SOP is adhered to. The SOP has been issued, which among others, entails the maximum number of congregation allowed.
"If the SOP is not being followed, if there are more than 60 people for example, praying in the mosque, there is a possibility this approval could be rescinded," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
For isolated cases of non-adherence of the SOP, Ismail Sabri said the management of the respective mosques could be advised to ensure full compliance instead of totally rescinding the approval.
He said the decision to allow Friday prayers was made after discussions and consent from the respective state rulers and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (for states without sultan) were obtained.
Zulkifli had yesterday said mosques and selected surau in the Covid-19 green zones in the Federal Territories would be allowed to hold Friday prayers and other congregational prayers, namely, Tarawih and Aidilfitri prayers, in stages, beginning today, with between three and 30 people only.
