Students take up part-time jobs bathing animals at vet's clinic

KOTA KINABALU: Five youngsters take up part-time jobs bathing pets to help lessen the burdens of their families affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

A veterinarian Dr Randolf Paza said the lads in their 20s recently contacted him looking for jobs.

Four of them are accounting students at Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara (UiTM) while another is a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leaver.

"Some of their parents lost incomes due to the MCO and these part timers are helping out family members by working at the clinic.

"Furthermore, this is also a way for them to occupy their time as sporting activities are still not allowed for now," he said when contacted, adding the part-timers were earning RM35 per day.

He added that the students were familiar with handling animals as some of them have been volunteering at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

They started working at his clinic, here, since the first day of the Conditional MCO.

For now, Randolf said his clients were keen with the animal bathing services and the idea that these students were working to help their families.

"Some of my clients even asked for grooming services. This will definitely be a good chance for these students to learn more about animals."

Members of the public can contact 012-2668164 for more information about the students' services.
