Covid-19: New cases mark significant jump to 277

PUTRAJAYA: There are 277 new Covid-19 cases reported as at noon today, bringing the tally to 8,247 nationwide.

This marks a significant increase from yesterday's 93.

271 of the new cases are non-Malaysian citizens, two are imported cases while the remaining four are local transmissions.

The number of active cases is 1,573.

"The ministry also recorded 28 more recoveries, increasing the number of recovered and discharged patients to 6,559 (79.5 per cent)," Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at his daily press conference on Covid-19 updates today.

Six Covid-19 patients are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU), with two needing breathing assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham informed that among the 271 cases involving foreigners, 270 were from the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot, which were repeat samples of those detained and quarantined there.

The remaining case is a foreigner from a construction site in Pudu.

No fatalities from the virus was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) as at noon today, keeping the death toll at 115.
