Triple suicide attempt thwarted in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Swift action by firefighters foiled a triple suicide attempt in Manggatal here, early today.

The 12 Fire and Rescue Department personnel had been deployed to an apartment unit after a distress call was received at 3.48am.

The team found that two women, aged 26 and 60, and a 28-year-old man, had locked themselves in a kitchen of the flat unit.

"According to the operations chief, the trio was allegedly attempting suicide in the kitchen as the LPG gas had been released.

"Using special equipment, the rescue team gained entry into the house and managed to calm the victims," the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement.

The trio was conveyed to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

It is unclear what led the trio to resort to attempt suicide.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji, when contacted, said police are speaking to the victims at the hospital.
