Seven Mat Rempit nabbed for performing stunts on Duke Highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old government servant was among seven people arrested for dangerous driving and racing on the Duke Highway here, early today.

In a two-and-half-hour operation, police arrested seven men, aged between 19 and 27, for illegally performing dangerous stunts and acts on their motorcycles, endangering themselves and others on the road.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the civil servant was arrested after he was seen 'competing' with another suspect in executing the 'superman' move on his motorcycle.

Others performed zig zag riding and wheelies on the highway.

"Checks showed three of them did not even have a valid licence, but yet were on the road".

Zulkefly said one of the suspects, a 19-year-old who was arrested after pulling a 'superman' stunt, lying flat on his tummy on his motorcycle, was also a repeat offender.

"Just recently, the same teen had a brush with the law during a similar traffic operation at Dataran Merdeka, for performing a wheelie on a motorcycle, and now he's back at it, doing the 'superman'," he said in a statement today.

He said the operation, which started at 12.30am, was led by Assistant Superintendent Ahmad Fuad Mahmod from the KL Traffic Intelligence/Operation division.

"All those arrested were taken to the KL Traffic Department for a documentation process at about 3am.

"Among the other offences by the suspects were illegal motorcycle modifications to increase speed, using smaller tyres from those permitted according to the size and types of their machines, using loud modified exhausts, riding without side mirrors and without head and rear lights," he added.
