Covid-19: Designated quarantine centres at hotels to cease operation from tomorrow [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Quarantine centres for Covid-19 at designated hotels will cease operations from tomorrow.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Malaysians returning from abroad would be allowed to undergo the 14-day self quarantine at home once their Covid-19 swab tests at airports showed negative.

He said as of 8am today, a total 147 quarantine centres were operating nationwide compared to 150 yesterday.

Ismail, who is also the Defence Minister, said 15,023 people were currently undergoing the mandatory quarantine including 109 Malaysians who had returned to the country on Monday.

He said a total 51,347 Malaysians have undergone mandatory quarantine since April 3, with 41,509 people having completed the process and allowed to return home.

He said the country's borders remained shut, except for Malaysians returning from abroad and special cases.

"However, these cases are subjected to approval from the Immigration Department. Others who are allowed are diplomats and expatriates like those who bought houses here under the Malaysia My Second Home programme.

"Johor Baru, for instance, is still closed to foreigners except for Malaysians returning to the country," he told a Press conference.
