Health Ministry orders Broga Hill to close until further notice

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has ordered popular hiking spot Broga Hill in Semenyih to close after hikers were found violating the Recovery Movement Control Order's standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The closure, starting June 27, was following photos circulating on social media showing long queues of hikers at Broga Hill last weekend.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the notice for closure was made under Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

"The closure will be enforced on June 27 until a period which will be announced later.

"The SOPs and new norms often emphasised by the government acts as a defence system for our country against the Covid-19 outbreak.

"Therefore, the Health Ministry urges the public not to be negligent or take the SOPs for granted," he said in a statement today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry hoped the public would continue its efforts to break the Covid-19 chain.
