Sabah floods: Number of evacuees drops to 705

KOTA KINABALU: Floodwaters are slowly receding in Sabah, allowing more evacuees to return to their homes.

As of 8pm today, 705 people from 220 families are still taking shelter at temporary relief centres state-wide.

The floods, which followed heavy rain on Saturday, affected 152 villages in 11 districts – but the situation is slowly improving, with five PPS closed in Tenom and one in Penampang, today.

According to the Sabah Disaster Management Committee, Kota Belud still has 323 people from 102 families housed at four PPS in the district.

"The number of evacuees in Tenom decreased to 230 people from 72 families at three PPS, as five centres in the district were closed at 4.30pm today.

"Besides that, 59 people from 20 families are housed at one relief centre in Papar; and 93 people from 26 families are taking shelter at one PPS in Beaufort," it said in a statement.
