Nine, including toddler, injured in Kepala Batas road crash

KEPALA BATAS: Nine people, including a toddler, were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles at Jalan Permatang Tiga here, late yesterday.

The accident occurred at 11.15pm when the driver of an Isuzu D'Max – en route from Kepala Batas to Sungai Lokan – lost control of the vehicle, which veered into the opposite lane and crashed into a Perodua Alza.

Victims in the Perodua Alza were identified as driver Ahmad Sukri Ishak, 40, and his family members Noor Hidayah Abdul Halim, 37; Nur Hannan Ahmad Sukri, 10; Nur Nuha Ahmad Sukri, 8; Nur Nuha Ahmad Sukri, 2, Sariah Saad, 70; Nor Amila Abdul Halim, 29; and Afifah Inshirah Mohd Asri, 9.

Ahmad Sukri was pinned to his seat and suffered a broken leg. He was extricated from the vehicle by rescuers.

The Isuzu D'Max driver, Muhamad Faiz Harun, 29, suffered chest and head injuries.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor confirmed the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
