Penang reports three more JE cases

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has recorded three more Japanese Encephalitis cases (JE) as of today.

State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin said two cases were detected in Seberang Perai Selatan while the third is in the southwest district.

However, Norlela said there were three more suspected cases pending laboratory test.

"There are three more JE suspected cases but we are waiting for confirmation from the lab," she said in a statement today.

She said that larviciding and fogging were carried out within 24 hours after the cases were reported.

Norlela also said the continuous effort would be carried out to break the chain of JE infection.

"People are reminded to follow the recommendations by the Health Department to fight JE infection together."

Previously, two cases were reported at Sungai Bakap, in the Seberang Prai Selatan district last month.

The cases involve children aged two and eight.
