Karaoke gets nod, nay for pubs [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Family entertainment centres including karaoke outlets can reopen after almost four months of closure since the Movement Control Order (MCO) took effect on March 18.

Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government took into consideration the livelihood of some 3,000 staff members in the sector and the RM500 million in revenue it had contributed to the country.

"The decision was made at the special ministerial meeting for MCO implementation after listening to a proposal presentation by Tourism, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

"They cover game arcades, indoor funfair parks, edutainment (centres), play gyms for children, entertainment games, machines and technology entertainment and karaoke centres.

"Karaoke at weddings are also allowed now; they would be bored without karaoke (sessions)," he told a press conference today.

He said the general Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) covered the use of the Mysejahtera mobile application or manual registration at premises, body temperature checks, limit on the number of customers, online ticket booking, cleaning and scheduled disinfection.

He said, pubs and nightclubs however were still not allowed to operate.
