Possible EMCO in Sarawak if Covid-19 cases continue to soar

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has not ruled out the possibility of enforcing the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) if Covid-19 cases continue to show an upward trend in Sarawak.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said despite having a total of 10 clusters in Sarawak, the situation in the state remained under control.

"We have sent a team from the ministry to the field to strengthen and increase contact tracing for positive cases.

"If needed, we will enforce the EMCO at affected localities or on targeted groups. For now, we are still able to control it well," he said.

Currently, eight clusters in Sarawak are still active. They include Sentosa (eight cases), Stutong (seven), Kuching engineering (three), Mambong (five) and Jupiter (three).

Other clusters are the Kuching medical centre (three cases), Kuching jetty (two), and Melbourne (two).
