Upside-down flags outside Johor factory, 4 nabbed

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested four individuals, including a Bangladeshi national, at a factory in Tebrau industrial area yesterday for disrespecting the Jalur Gemilang and Johor state flag.

State police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the four suspects, aged between 23 and 56, were picked up after two police reports were lodged at Bandar Dato' Onn police station.

He said a police team went to inspect the furniture factory, which has been in operation for eight years, and confirmed that both flags were being flown upside-down.

He said the team then detained the manager, two staff and the Bangladeshi national for questioning.

"We have recorded their statements and the case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"The Johor police will not take excuses on this. Malaysia has reached independence 63 years ago and yet, there's still people who still do this (flying the flag wrongly)?"

"If this happens again, we will go after those responsible," he said.

He added that giving excuses such as the flags were put up by foreign workers does not stand.

"As a Malaysian, you must have the responsibility within you to check whether it is being done correctly." he said.
