PM calls for unity, perseverance in National Day video

KUALA LUMPUR: Remain united and continue embracing the new norms in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is the call made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a three minute-40 second video published on Facebook today ahead of Malaysia's 63rd National Day.

This will be the first time Malaysians will mark independence day while adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"Let's face the new challenges while embracing the new norms.

"Whatever the challenges that come our way, let us face them with great determination and perseverance.

"United and with determination and in high spirits, let's continue defending the independence of the country," said Muhyiddin in the video.

He added that 63 years since gaining independence, Malaysia has achieved peace that has not only brought about development, but also improved the people's wellbeing.

"Although we are different, we are all the same.

"Let us continue with the struggle of defending our blessed nation," he said.

The video ends with Muhyiddin leading members of Cabinet in shouting "Merdeka, Merdeka, Merdeka" and "Malaysia Prihatin", which is the theme of this year's National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
