Number of Perak flood evacuees increase

IPOH: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at temporary evacuation centres in the state rose to 138 from 104 as of 4pm today.

Perak Civil Defence Force spokesperson said flash floods struck the Kuala Kangsar and Kerian districts due to heavy rain since yesterday.

"So far, four relief centres are open of which three are in Kuala Kangsar namely Kampung Stor Community Hall, Kampung Talang Masjid Community Hall and Risda Training Centre; and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Parit Haji Aman in Bagan Serai, Kerian.

"A total of 69 victims from 14 families are currently seeking shelter at the three relief centres in Kuala Kangsar. The number of evacuees have also decreased from 104 to only 69 victims as of 4pm.

"Most of the evacuees in Kuala Kangsar are from Kampung Talang, Kampung Changkat Gohor and Kampung Setor," he said.

The spokesperson added that a total of 69 victims from 32 families in Kampung Alor Setanggok and Kampung Ban Pisang were currently seeking shelter at SK Parit Haji Aman in Bagan Serai.

"The relief centres in Kuala Kangsar were opened at 3am today while relief centres in Bagan Serai opened at 11.30pm yesterday after houses there were inundated by flood waters measuring one metre," he said.
