Kedah Medical Centre reopens after Covid-19 shutdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Medical Centre (KMC) resumed operations today after being shuttered due to an outbreak of Covid-19 on its premises.

KMC services and departments that are now fully operational are the accident and emergency unit, outpatient clinic, admissions, inpatient, as well as operation and surgical services.

"KMC has resumed its operations upon completion of a thorough cleaning process throughout the hospital; and after environmental sample tests taken from 50 areas in the hospital came back negative (no evidence of infection).

"Preliminary detection of Covid-19 cases only involved operation and surgical services with no infection to other departments," KMC medical director Datuk Dr Kamaruzzaman Ali said in a statement today.

He added that 636 KMC employees and doctors have been screened and given a clean bill of health.

Dr Kamaruzzaman said KMC resumed its operations after the state Health Department was satisfied with the commitment, management, and preventive measures taken by the hospital to curb the spread of Covid-19, as per guidelines set by the Health Ministry.

KMC had postponed its operations from Sept 10 following the confirmation of Covid-19 transmission at one of its departments.

All personnel who had contact with the infected patients were identified and placed under quarantine and supervision by the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, Dr Kamaruzzaman said patients are advised to make appointments for treatment or consultation with KMC specialists; while additional supply of medications can be procured via the Top-up Medication Home Delivery Service at 011-13348280 from 9am to 5pm.
