PUTRAJAYA: A new Covid-19 cluster, the Bangau-Bangau cluster, was detected in Semporna, Sabah, today.

This makes it the seventh such cluster detected in Sabah.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five cases from this cluster, which is from case 10,340 to case 10,344, had been tested positive with the coronavirus on Sept 21.

He said the latest cluster was unearthed from the screening outcome of patients admitted at the Semporna Hospital.

"Of the five, four are Malaysians and one is a non-Malaysian. All of them did not show any Covid-19 symptoms (asymptomatic) and all had been admitted to Semporna Hospital for treatment.

"As of noon today, a total of 97 individuals had been screened. Five were found to be positive, 92 individuals are still waiting for their result. The cause of the infection is still under investigation and services in Semporna Hospital are still ongoing," he said at a press conference on the Covid-19 updates at the Health ministry here today.

A total of 82 new Covid-19 cases were logged as of noon today, which takes the tally nationwide to 10,358 cases, of which 665 were active cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 82, 10 were imported cases, involving 9 Malaysian nationals and one foreign national.

These cases, he said, comprised returnees from India (9) and one from Indonesia, he said.

"Meanwhile of the 72 local transmission cases, 60 are Malaysians, while 12 are non-Malaysian nationals.

"Sixty cases are from Sabah, of which 41 cases are linked to the Benteng LD Cluster; six from the Pulau Cluster; six cases from the Selamat Cluster; five from the Bangau-Bangau Cluster; a sole case from community screening. Another sole case was detected as positive after it was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu which involved a Malaysian.

"Ten cases were also detected in Kedah, of which 9 were from the Sungai Cluster and a sole case was detected from the screening under the Administrative Enhanced Movement Control Order. Another one case was detected from the pre-surgery screening which involved a Malaysian at a health centre in Selangor. The patient has since been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"There is one case in Kuching, Sarawak, which was from the symptomatic screening case at Sarawak General Hospital involving a local," Dr Noor Hisham said.

He also said 9 cases to date were currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, where two cases required breathing support.

No fatality was reported today, and the total number of deaths cases in the country remained at 130s or 1.26 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that there were a total of 168 recovery cases today, with the total cumulative recovery at 9,563 cases or 92.3 per cent.
