Kuala Kedah-Langkawi ferry resumes operation

ALOR STAR: The Kuala Kedah-Langkawi ferry resumed operations today after its service ceased temporarily following the implementation of a targeted enhanced movement control order (TEMCO) in the Kota Setar district due to Covid-19.

Ferry Line Ventures operating officer Ahmad Azizan Aziz said ferry operations to Langkawi was operating as usual with reduced capacity involving only four services at 8am, 10.30am, 2pm and 4.30pm.

"The travel schedule (reduced capacity) is only meant for three days until Monday and service will return to normal from Tuesday onwards.

"We are only operating four services daily for the three days as there could be people having phobia due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said at the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal here today.

Azizan said said prospective passengers have been encouraged to purchase their tickets via online to avoid congestion at the counters apart from needing to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

Meanwhile, checks this morning found that more than 100 passengers were using the ferry service through the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal.

Passengers bought their respective tickets on Friday after being informed that the Kota Setar TEMCO ended on Friday.

Ferry passenger Azwan Shah Masod, 35, said he left Johor on Friday evening and arrived at the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal this morning as he had some matters to attend in Langkawi.

He also did not have to travel to Kuala Perlis jetty which was further compared to the distance in Kuala Kedah.

"What is important is that we have to wear face mask, use the MySejahtera application and follow the set SOP as Covid-19 remains prevalent," he said.
