Covid-19: 11 new cases in Sabah involve health officials

KUALA LUMPUR: 11 new positive Covid-19 cases in Sabah last night involve health officials in six districts.

Sabah health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said all affected officials are from Tawau (4 cases), Semporna (three) and one case each in Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Beluran respectively.

According to a media statement, all cases are among the 219 new positive cases that were reported in Sabah as of last night, with Semporna recording 62 cases, Kota Kinabalu (42), Sandakan (33), Tawau (28), Papar (18), Ranau (seven), Putatan (five), Tambunan (four) and Penampang (three).

Dr Christina said Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kudat, Pitas and Beluran recorded two cases each, while one new case was recorded in Beaufort and Kinabatangan respectively.

The spike of cases in Papar and Sandakan resulted in both districts being categorised as red zones since Oct 5, bringing a total of seven red zone districts in Sabah.

Five other red zone districts are Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Kota Kinabalu following the increase in cases from the end of September.

Total cumulative number of cases in Sabah stands at 2,737 with 1,430 active cases and 1,290 patients having recovered.

Three deaths were recorded including a one-year-old toddler in Semporna.
