KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin chaired the Special National Security Council Meeting today despite being in self-quarantine for 14-days.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also under self-quarantine, said it was business as usual for the government.
"The meeting today was chaired by the Prime Minister via a video conference. He had also decided that this meeting will be held daily.
"This goes to show that the government is extremely concerned over the Covid-19 situation in the country.
"The meeting had also agreed to tighten border controls especially in the east coast of Sabah by boosting the number of security and assets to deter the entry of illegal foreigners.
"The surveillance on the people's adherence to the Recovery Movement Control Order standard operating procedures will also be enhanced while more roadblocks will be mounted," he said in a Facebook Live press conference from his home.
Ismail Sabri said the government was aware of the people's worries on the rising number of positive Covid-19 cases nationwide.
He assured the rakyat that the government, especially the Health Ministry, was doing its best to come up with various strategies to break the Covid-19 transmission chain.
"We are doing our best to contain the infections. We have succeeded before in flattening the Covid-19 curve. We were even recognised as one of the five best countries in the world in our fight against Covid-19.
"If we have succeeded before, we can for sure do it again. Most important is for us, the people along with leaders, to work together to face this Covid-19 war.
"I am confident that if we come together, we will achieve success and we will win," he said.
Ismail added that his Covid-19 swab test was negative and he was serving the self-quarantine on the advice of the ministry.
"Alhamdulillah, I am feeling healthy and I do not have any symptoms."
