KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is striving to shore up support for the people of Sabah during the ongoing Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the state.
Its presiden, Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman said the MRA branch in Sabah was among the first NGOs to assist the Health Ministry ramp up screening since the CMCO was first implemented in the east coast of Sabah (Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu).
"MRA Sabah has also implemented several non-medical programmes to assist residents that have been affected by the CMCO," he said in a statement today.
Dr Daud said many corporate companies had also contributed supplies of essential items to MRA to be distributed to the people in Sabah.
"The PPB Group Berhad contributed 2,000 basic food packs, worth of RM12,000, to be distributed to the whole of Sabah.
"MMC Corporation has also pitched in RM15,000 for a similar cause.
"Meanwhile, MRDIY Berhad has once again donated 9,000 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) and 20,000 face masks, worth RM500,000 to be distributed to the Sabah Health Department and the Sabah Prison Department," he said.
The food and medical assistance will be transported from Kuala Lumpur using Pos Malaysia Logistik flights, with the support of Match Health Cluster.
Dr Daud said the aid had been disbursed to Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Beaufort, Sipitang, Tawau, Semporna, Sandakan and will be expanded to cover more areas, depending on the funding and contributions it receives.
"So far, MRA has collected RM60,000 from corporate companies and donations from the public. We hope to collect RM200,000 in funds, as well as more material contributions, such as food and medical equipment by end of October.
"For now, MRA Sabah has opened three Covid-19 operation centres in Tawau, Beaufort and Kota Kinabalu," he said.
