Covid-19: Kelantan mosques, surau urged to hold special prayers

KOTA BARU: All mosques and surau in Kelantan have been urged to perform special prayers to seek Allah's protection amidst a surge in Covid-19 cases nationwide.

Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said the special prayers should be held after the completion of Friday prayers.

While in surau, he said Muslims are also advised to perform the special prayers during their spare time.

"Although Kelantan has recorded fewer Covid-19 cases (compared to other states), l feel that special prayers are needed so that all of us, as well as our country, will get Allah's blessings.

"Therefore, Muslims in the state are encouraged to take part in the special prayers if they are held in their localities," he said.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri´ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah recently decreed that all mosques nationwide hold the 'solat hajat' and 'doa selamat'.

Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the King's decree aims to seek protection from Allah for Malaysians to stem the transmission of Covid-19 in the country.

Ahmad Fadil said His Majesty's decree came following the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and the emergence of new Covid-19 clusters in several states.

He said Al-Sultan Abdullah also calls on Malaysians to play their part and abide by the new norms and standard operating procedures (SOP) to contain the pandemic.
