Foreign Ministry to discuss with Singapore on M'sians prohibited from returning

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry will meet its Singaporean counterparts over the issue of Malaysians being prohibited from returning to the country under the Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA).

Following a viral video of a Malaysian who made such allegations, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he would inform the Foreign Ministry of the issue.

"I've watched the video and read many comments from netizens. Of course, there is no obstacle for Malaysians to return to the country. However, Singapore has its own policy on this. Discussions were earlier held on Malaysians returning under the RGL (Reciprocal Green Lane) and PCA.

"The Foreign Ministry has discussed the matter with their counterparts. This is a new development and I will inform and ask that it be discussed further with the Singaporean government," he told a Press conference today.

On the cost for mandatory quarantine, he said exemptions were given to those in the B40 income group, the disabled, students, and certain cases like retrenched workers.

They can appeal to be exempted or ask for payment reductions, he said.

"We ask that those who published the video (on the cost) appeal by writing an official letter to the Health Ministry.

"I was made to understand that many people have been exempted from paying for the quarantine with valid reasons."
