CMCO: Prasarana reduces frequency of train, bus services

KUALA LUMPUR: Starting tomorrow, Rapid Rail train services in Klang Valley will be reduced until the end of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad group chief operating officer Datin Norlia Noah said the Transport Ministry had allowed reducing the frequency of trains based on demand, following the decrease in passengers due to on-going CMCO.

"The LRT, MRT, and monorail services will operate as usual from 6am to midnight, only the frequency will change according to the time and demand," she said in a statement today.

Norlia said the set frequency, however, was merely a guide.

"The operation of our trains on all routes will be closely monitored by the operations control centre, which was empowered to add trains if needed to meet the increase in demand at certain times.

Norlia also said the frequency of Rapid KL buses and Jom Naik MRT shuttle buses would also be reduced starting tomorrow, due to the declining demand during the on-going CMCO period.

"Based on data, the trend shows that the number of passengers is decreasing, including during peak hours.

"Passengers during off-peak hours, although remain the same, the numbers are extremely low."

As such, she said Rapid Bus service frequency would be based on its weekend travel plan, which is 20 per cent reduction than weekdays.

"Nonetheless, we will continue to monitor the situation closely through our bus control centre.

"For the convenience of users, we encourage them to use google maps/moovit application or see the bus real-time at myrapidbus.prasarana.com.my/kiosk to better plan their journey."
