Petronas confirms investigation on capsized MV Dayang Topaz

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas has confirmed that an investigation is being carried out on the capsized MV Dayang Topaz at the Baram oil field which claimed two lives yesterday.

In a statement, it said that the vessel owned by DESB Marine Services Sdn Bhd was undertaking operational work at the Baram platform for Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) when the incident occurred.

The vessel reportedly made contact with the platform after its anchor wire gave way during adverse weather.

Petronas affirmed that all relevant authorities have been informed of the incident with the utmost priority placed on the safety of the personnel involved.

"Petronas is deeply saddened by the incident and we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased," it said today.

All 187 crew and the remains of the two deceased were taken to the Miri Jetty Port yesterday.
