Police to track down those who flee home from EMCO areas

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will pursue errant individuals who flee home to evade the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob admitted that such incidents occurred after the government announced the implementation of EMCO for certain areas.

"We usually make the announcement two days prior to the EMCO to allow the authorities to make necessary preparations.

"For example, the police will have to mobilise their personnel to mount roadblocks and install barbed wires at entry points of EMCO areas, as well as to plug 'rat lanes'.

"Likewise, the Health Ministry also needs time to deploy resources to conduct targeted Covid-19 screening for residents in EMCO areas," he said.

He also said police had previously arrested foreign workers who ran away from EMCO areas like Selangor Mansion, and similar measures would also be taken this time around.
