Remain calm, Chow says following CMCO in Penang's sub-district 12

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called for residents of sub-district 12 in the southwest district here to remain calm following announcement of a two-week Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to be implemented from Friday.

"I urge all of you to remain calm and wait for further information from the relevant authorities with regards to the implementation of the CMCO," he said in a brief statement this evening.

Earlier this afternoon, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision to implement the CMCO was made following advice from the Health Ministry, which was discussed by the National Security Council (NSC) at a special meeting today.

He had said that 35 positive Covid-19 cases had been recorded there, including 11 new cases yesterday.

The CMCO will be imposed there from Nov 6 to Nov 19.

"I take note of Ismail's announcement. This is to enable the Health Ministry to carry out targeted screening (for Covid-19) in the affected area," he added.

He also urged the people to continue to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) put in place and refrain from passing viral unverified information which can cause unnecessary panic.

Meanwhile, southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan is expected to call for a press conference tomorrow to provide further details on the implementation of the CMCO.
