Seremban prison placed under two-week EMCO from tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The Seremban prison and its quarters will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks beginning tomorrow.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO, which covers the prison, its administrative offices as well as staff quarters, will affect 2,080 people.

He said the Health Ministry has so far conducted 246 targeted screenings, with 25 Covid-19 cases detected so far at the prison.

"The same standard operating procedure (SOP) implemented at other prisons will apply, such as no visitations. The SOP can be found on the Prisons Department and National Security Council websites," he told reporters today.

Meanwhile, the minister also announced the extension of the Conditional MCO in the Kuching district of Sarawak, the EMCO in Kampung Sabah Baru and Lahad Datu in Sabah, as well as Putra Point Nilai in Negri Sembilan.

"The CMCO in the Kuching district began on Nov 9 and ended on Nov 22. As of now, a total of 1,055 positive cases were recorded there, with 58 active cases involving several clusters in the district.

"As such, the special cabinet meeting today agreed to extend the CMCO in the Kuching district till Friday. However, the order may be lifted earlier depending on the situation," he said.

He explained that the extension of the EMCO at Kampung Sabah Baru is to facilitate continuous screenings to curb infections at the locality.

"The EMCO was enforced from Nov 10 to (today) and it will be extended for another 14 days starting tomorrow until Dec 7.

"As of Nov 15, 1,914 screenings were completed, of which 200 positive cases were detected."

Meanwhile, he said Putra Point Nilai has been under the CMCO since Oct 28 and was scheduled to end tomorrow. However, the special cabinet meeting has agreed to extend it to Nov 30.

"Thus far, 436 tests have been conducted and 314 results came back positive. The Health Ministry today conducted a second round of tests and are awaiting results."
