Family receives Corporal Baharuddin's remains at GOF camp near Tapah

TAPAH: The body of Corporal Baharuddin Ramli arrived at the Battalion 3 (Senoi Praaq) Northern Brigade, General Operations Force (GOF) camp here today.

The hearse carrying the remains of Baharuddin arrived at 9.30pm from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, Kedah after the post-mortem was completed at 6.40pm.

His body was placed at the Battalion 3 GOF Clinic and more than 200 family members, relatives and colleagues paid their last respects.

Baharuddin's wife, Relow Ko, 48, was also seen here. She appeared calm upon seeing her husband's face for the last time.

It was reported today that the 54-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest and stomach in a 3.10am shootout with a group of smugglers at the Malaysia-Thailand border in Perlis.

The other GOF personnel, Corporal Norihan Tari, 39, sustained severe injuries after being shot on the right side of his abdomen.

Baharuddin, from Bahau, Negri Sembilan, leaves behind a wife and three children aged between 32 and 18.

He is expected to be buried at his hometown in Kampung Jempol, near Bahau tomorrow.

The deceased's son, Shahrul Effendy, 32, when met said he recalled his father once said that he might get shot one day while on duty.

"I didn't know that it becomes real. He told me that being shot is one of the risks he needs to face as a policeman. It could happen at any time and yes, it happened to him today.

"Even though it is hard to accept, but my family, especially my mother is glad because he carried out his duty for the country and we know he loved his job very much." be said.
