"Flying cars" or super drones are not a priority

KUALA LUMPUR: The Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry (Medac) has clarified that the controversial "flying cars" or super drones are not a priority of the ministry.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Wong Kah Woh said the committee was informed about this by Medac secretary-general Datuk Suriani Ahmad when tabling the ministry's follow-up actions to the Nov 11 PAC report.

Wong said the ministry was now focusing on entrepreneurship development, particularly for small and medium enterprises, and micro businesses.

"The presentation by Medac to the POAC was made following the recommendations in the PAC report on the development of Air Mobility, tabled in Parliament on Nov 28, 2019," he said in a statement today.

He added the PAC was satisfied with the National Audit Department's audit of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology, and said it found no investment of RM20 million was made by its subsidiary, Venture Tech Sdn Bhd (VTSB) to develop the so-called flying cars.

The VTSB investment agreement document, he said, had clearly stated that the fund could not be used for the development of flying cars.

"PAC also found that the VTSB investment agreement document had clearly provided that the RM20 million investment by VTSB could not be used for the purpose related to flying cars," he added.
