Counterfeit perfume worth RM1.7 million seized, two arrested

PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has seized 33,272 units of counterfeit perfume worth RM1.7 million in raids on six premises in Jalan Chan Sow Lin here.

Its enforcement director Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman said a 37-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman who were packing the imitation perfumes in branded boxes for distribution were arrested in the operation on Tuesday.

The raids were conducted following two months of intelligence work and the six premises were found to have been rented by an individual as a storage place for imitation perfume stocks of various brands.

"Based on the statement (of the suspects), the counterfeit goods were obtained from China and after the packaging process, they would be distributed to wholesalers around the Klang Valley or sold online," he said in a statement here today.

The perfumes seized included imitations of brands such as Burberry, Gucci, Victoria Secret, Tommy, DKNY, Jo Malone and Michael Kors, he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.

"People who have information related to the storage and sale of counterfeit goods are advised to report this activity through hotline 1-800-886-800 or 03- 8882 6088 at Enforcement Command Centre (ECC)," he said. - Bernama
