UPSI develops digital library to assist student learning

TANJUNG MALIM: The Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI) has created a digital library at its Sultan Azlan Shah Campus in Proton City, here, for the benefit of its students nationwide.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran said UPSI was the first public university to develop a digital library with access to more than a million digital material, including electronic books and journals.

He said the initiative was a new norm in using libraries that did not have books and has since created excitement among the young and millennial generation.

"Usually we come to a library which is lined with books, but a digital library is different and there are no books at all," he said.

Mohammad Shatar hoped students would make full use of the facilities which cost them RM335,000, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.

"Our target to make UPSI the number one University of Education is proven as students can now access the digital library from home only by using their smartphones."

Meanwhile, chief librarian Siti Sumaizan Ramli said UPSI staff can access more than a million book titles, articles in journals and electronic thesis.

"All they have to do is access using the link https://upsi.overdrive.com which is integrated with the library portal at https://pustaka.upsi.edu.my

"Students will no longer experience difficulties in terms of logistics or location because they can access the digital library from the comforts of their home." she said.

Also present during the launch were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Prof Dr Md Amin Md Taff; Registrar, Helmi Zaifura Abdul Rahman and Treasurer, Mohamad Najib Mohamed.
