KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah were laid to rest at the National Heroes Mausoleum at Masjid Negara here, at about 3.15pm today.

She was buried alongside her father and the nation's first Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamed Noah Omar, who died in 1991; and her sister, Tun Suhailah Mohamed Noah.

Suhailah was the wife of Malaysia's third Prime Minister, Tun Hussein Onn. She died in 2014.

A Jalur Gemilang-draped coffin bearing her remains was transported from the Ar-Rahah Mosque to Masjid Negara at 2pm, after the Zohor and jenazah prayers.

The jenazah prayer was again performed upon the coffin's arrival at Masjid Negara.

Among dignitaries present at the funeral were Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Also seen were former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other Cabinet members.

Before the funeral's conclusion, a talkin (funeral sermon) was held by Masjid Negara Imam Besar, Ehsan Mohd Hosni.

Family members, all dressed in black, including Rahah's eldest son and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, were seen wiping away tears while final prayers were recited.

The Queen was also visibly moved and tearful when the talkin was read.

Both the Queen and Muhyiddin later scattered flower petals and poured scented water over Rahah's grave, followed by all five of her sons and their spouses.

A Jalur Gemilang was then presented to Najib by Senior Deputy Secretary-General in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan.

Earlier, members of royalty, political leaders, and members of the public visited the Ar-Rahah Mosque to pay their last respects.

Among dignitaries present were the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah, and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Rahah, who was the widow of second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, died at about 4.45pm at Prince Court Medical Centre, yesterday.

She was 87.
