Don't go fixing potholes on your own, Perak MB tells public

IPOH: The Perak Menteri Besar today urged members of the public to stop fixing street potholes on their own as it might make the situation worse if such repairs are not carried out properly.

Datuk Saarani Mohamad said there were certain specifications to adhere to when it came to fixing potholes and the state's Public Works Department has been working hard to resolve the problem.

"All construction (process) has its own specifications…but by taking matters into their own hands, it might make things worse. Minor damages could lead to greater problems.

"We are afraid of more 'KJs' (Khairy Jamaluddin) falling," he said, referring to an incident where the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister sustained minor injuries after hitting a pothole during a cycling outing.

Speaking to reporters after handing over assistance to Perak-born students at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here, today, Saarani said between January and December this year, the department had solved up to 97 per cent of the 705 complaints received on road issues.

"There are only 18 cases left in the Kinta district and one case each in Kuala Kangsar and Kampar. For small potholes, the department will wait for a few more (potholes) and repair them together to lessen the cost," he said.

On Sunday, Khairy sustained bruises on his face after his bicycle hit a pothole and he landed in a ditch during a ride.

The Rembau member of parliament shared his ordeal on social media.

Khairy, however, did not identify the exact time and location where the incident took place.

"So, hit a pothole and landed in a ditch during my ride," said Khairy in a series of social media postings.
