Tampoi workers' dormitory repurposed into Covid-19 quarantine centre

KUALA LUMPUR: Westlite Accommodation Malaysia has affirmed that its Westlite Tampoi dormitory in Taman Perindustrian Tampoi Jaya, Johor Baru, was turned into a "low-risk Covid-19 centre" on Dec 26.

The workers' dormitory has been under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) since Dec 25 after 115 foreign workers staying there tested positive for Covid-19 between Dec 21 and Dec 23. The EMCO is slated to end on Jan 8, 2021.

In a statement today, Westlite Accommodation Malaysia said the workers' dormitory has been repurposed to quarantine and treat asymptomatic cases.

"It is important to note that the government repurposed the premises of Westlite Tampoi for use as a low-risk Covid-19 centre since Dec 26.

"This means the location will be used to house, isolate and treat asymptomatic cases within the Tampoi Jaya area.

"The individuals housed in this low-risk Covid-19 centre include both registered residents of Westlite Tampoi, as well as workers of employers who are not registered residents of Westlite Tampoi," read the statement.

The management also said it will ensure the wellbeing and welfare of Westlite Tampoi residents while cooperating with the Health Ministry and local authorities to curb the spread of Covid-19 within the Tampoi Jaya area.
