MCO 2.0: 32 detained for traveling to other states, districts without permit

KUALA LUMPUR: 32 people travelling to other states and districts without the necessary police permit were among those nabbed for violating the Movement Control Order's (MCO) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on Friday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a total of 472 people were detained, of which 457 were issued compounds and 15 remanded.

Other offences were failure to wear face mask (182), failure to provide customers' registration log at premises (85), premises operating beyond permitted hours or without permission (66), failure to observe physical distancing (65) and others (42).

He said teams from the task force on SOP compliance involving 10,858 personnel conducted nationwide checks at 3,567 supermarkets, 4,706 restaurants and 1,765 stalls; 1,343 factories, 3,288 banks and 1,528 government buildings.

Also checked were 989 land, 244 water and 88 air transport terminals, he said.

He said 444 roadblocks were mounted nationwide on Friday, of which 57 were by police and nine by the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) under Ops Benteng, as well as 378 roadblocks through joint-operation Ops Penawar by the armed forces, police and the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela).

"A total of 65 illegal immigrants were detained during the operations, with four land vehicles seized."

He said the Housing and Local Government Ministry has conducted 13,929 sanitisation operations since March 30, last year, covering 145 zones.

A total of 15,331 premises were sanitised, comprising 2,988 business centres, 1,722 residential schemes including People's Housing Projects (PPR), 3,047 public places, 357 supermarkets and 7,217 government buildings.

A total of 101 sanitisation operations were conducted nationwide on Friday in Sabah (18), Melaka (16), Selangor (15), Sarawak (14), Johor (eight), Pahang (six), Penang (six), Kelantan (three), Terengganu (three), Perak (three), Kedah (one) Negeri Sembilan (one), Kuala Lumpur (six) and Putrajaya (one).

A total of 105,603 Malaysians are either in the process of undergoing or have completed the mandatory 14-day Covid-19 quarantine upon returning from abroad between July 24, last year and Jan 15.

"A total of 96,475 of the returnees have since been released and allowed to return to their respective homes."

He said there are still 8,588 people undergoing the mandatory quarantine and 540 people sent to hospitals for treatment.

Ismail Sabri said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) conducted a total of 14,359 checks on 8,132 construction sites nationwide between Apr 20, last year and Jan 15.

He said 22 construction sites were checked on Friday, of which 17 complied with the SOP, four others failed to do so and one was not in operation.
