Workers face anxious moments as landslide strikes near factory

KUALA SELANGOR: Workers at two factories located along Jalan PKPS in Kampung Bestari Jaya here faced anxious moments when a landslide took place near their work place as well as their hostel and "kongsi".

It is learned that 58 workers from a factory involved in processing chicken feed and another 13 employed as clay diggers were safe.

Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Azrel Izaidi Ahamad said his department received an emergency call at 6.51pm.

He said a team of seven members from BBP Bestari Jaya with the help of seven members from BBP Batu Arang, police, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Civil Defence Force personnel were deployed to the scene.

"Arriving at the location, we found a landslide estimated to be 500 meters long and 100 meters wide and 10 meters deep.

"Further examination found that there are other minor earth fractures apart from a 10 meter deep crack," he said, today.

Azrel Izaidi said following discussion with the Police, they advised the factory to temporarily halt their operations.

"Employees living in hostels and nearby shared houses were transferred to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Rantau Panjang, Bestari Jaya."
