112 nabbed for not wearing face masks

KUALA LUMPUR: Failure to wear face masks, premises operating beyond permitted hours and attempts to travel inter-state or inter-district without permission are the three top offences committed in violation of the Movement Control Order (MCO 2.0) yesterday (Tuesday).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police on Tuesday arrested 112 people who did not wear face masks and 84 operators of premises operating over the permitted hours or without permission from the authorities.

Others arrested were 77 people for attempting to travel inter-state or inter-district without permission, 76 people engaged in activities that made physical distancing difficult and 66 business operators who did not provide proper equipment or entry logs for their patrons to record their details.

They were among 506 people arrested by the police for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) enforced throughout the MCO2.0 period.

"From this, 473 people were slapped with compounds with the rest remanded to facilitate investigations into the offences they committed," he said in a statement today.
