153 foreign workers test positive for Covid-19 yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Security Council was informed by the Human Resources Ministry that 153 of the total 7,541 foreign workers who underwent Covid-19 screening yesterday have tested positive for the virus.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this brought the cumulative number of foreign workers screened for the virus as of Dec 1 to 225,950, which involved 9,132 employers.

Of the total, 4,386 of the foreign workers had tested positive for the virus while the results for 221,564 came back negative.

"Until today, a total 976 clinics are involved in the screening programme.

"This is in line with the latest directive from the government which made it compulsory for foreign workers to undergo Covid-19 screening especially those working in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

"The cost of the screening is being borne by their respective employers," said the Senior Defence Minister in a statement today.
