Malaysia exceeds 4,000 daily Covid-19 cases again

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia breached the 4,000-mark in daily Covid-19 cases yet again after 4,094 new infections were reported to the Health Ministry in the past 24 hours.

The last time the country's daily coronavirus cases exceeded 4,000 was on Jan 23 at 4,275, which was the highest daily figure recorded.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the daily new cases brought the cumulative number of cases since the pandemic hit the country to 198,208, of which, 43,192 are active cases.

In a brief update on the Covid-19 situation that was shared on his official Twitter account, Dr Noor Hisham said the country's death toll also increased to 717 after 10 more fatalities were reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).

"A total 303 cases are being treated at the Intensive Care Units (ICU), of which, 118 are intubated," said Dr Noor Hisham.

The number of Covid-19 patients who have recovered and discharged from hospitals as of noon today was 3,281, which is lower than the number of new cases reported to the ministry over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 154,299 or 77.8 per cent of total cases.
